The first female prime minister in the UK was Mrs. Margaret Thatcher who occupied the role from 1979 to 1990. She was called The Iron Lady because she was hard headed and hard-driving.
Her way of politics led to many things, one was that she changed the British welfare state to a conservative state. She passed away at the age of 87.

Before Mrs. Thatcher became the prime minister, Britain was a dependent society. Mrs. Thatcher wanted it to be a self-reliant society. Her ideals led to changes such as privatizing state industries and decreasing taxes, these changes happened in 1981.
The consequences led to inflation the following spring. A stand-out moment in Mrs. Thatcher's career was her winning the argument with the European Community where she argued that Britain was paying more to the organization than it should.
In terms of international relations, Mrs. Thatcher had a large influende on the politics of the Atlantic and was also supportive of the USA’s war against terrorism. She was not very involved in issues that concerned Ireland.
On November 28th in 1990 she resigned, leaving her role as prime minister due to conflicts between her and her competitors but also because of the decrease in supporters.
