In 1788, the United States Constitution was enacted. There are currently 27 constitutional amendments to the United States Constitution, one of which is the Second Amendment approved on December 15, 1791.
According to the Cornell Law School, United States Second Amendment states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Furthermore, Ronald Hughes describes in his article in BBC NEWS(2019) at the Second Amendment has often been the subject of debate.
Through analysis of the text, many people have concluded that the Second Amendment does not guarantee any rights to the individual but instead asserts only that states have the right to form a militia and that militia members can keep and bear arms.
They claim that they extended the right to keep and bear arms as far as to state militiamen. (Roland Hughes, BBC NEWS, 2019)
