Introduktion
Roma by Alfonso Cuáron is an cinematographic masterpiece that portraits a young girl, working as a maid in an upper - middle class home in Mexico City in 1970 and 1971.

With four children, a mother named Sofia and her absent husband Antonio who is having an affair with a younger woman. It takes place in a class distincted dimension with women and children in focus.

The whole film is in a gloomy black and white tone, which is compensated by its wide screen images and lack of cuts, that creates a real life experience.

In Hollywood storytelling, the cinematography with a lot of transitions and cuts are in focus. It is almost as the cinematographer is afraid that the audience is going to be bored otherwise. Roma is the total opposite.

Utdrag
Nevertheless, the movie depicts children which seem to be common for Cuaron as "Children of men" exposes children but in a different way.

Not only the one in the house that Cleo serves but also her own baby. However, Cleo's miscarriage affect her a lot.

The scene when she is giving birth and the nurses count to three, trying to save the baby, is remarkable emotional and the sounds and loud speaking plays a big role for that.

After that sequence in the movie all of these three elements of modernism fall in the right places. Sofia and the children goes for a roadtrip to tell about the father who is not coming back, and Cleo has just had her miscarriage.

Sofia insists that Cleo should go with them and the children say " but she can not work!"and Cleo goes with them but as a part of the family this time and the distinction is not as present.

The incident on the beach when Cleo save the childrens lives in the waves also changes her mood after her miscarriage. She finds peace with the other children and they all say that they love Cleo.

In conclusion, Roma is an emotional modern movie that manages to combine a realistic cinematography style with basic but terrible events in a great way.
