His fingers dance across the screen as he types a message to a friend, discussing plans to meet at a nearby hospital due to their mutual friend Lisa's unfortunate accident. While still half-asleep, he ambles into the bathroom, his gaze affixed to the glowing screen.
His fixation on the device continues unabated even as he steps outside. Oblivious to his surroundings, he marches forward, his attention imprisoned by the screen.
He crosses a bustling road without a single glance upward, resulting in a sudden collision with an oncoming car.
In a subsequent scene, we find him reclined in a hospital bed, a sturdy cast encasing his injured leg. Despite the pain, he manages to snap a photo of his foot's encasement and promptly shares it on his social media.
The response from friends and followers floods in, showering him with compliments and well-wishes. With a satisfied grin, he boasts about his newfound online popularity to a boy seated across from him.
The following day, he captures another selfie from his hospital bed, but his elation falters as the once-abundant likes slowly dwindle away.
A growing sense of desolation creeps over him, only briefly interrupted when the boy across the room receives a thoughtful gift, still immersed in the real world.
