Introduktion
Imagine living in a place where your roots started, and all of a sudden, they are ripped away due to societies thinking they are better than you.
This was exactly what happened to indigenous people in the United States, South Africa, and other countries.
I gained a lot of knowledge of their situation after listening to lessons, reading articles, and interacting with my classmates. As a result, I will express my thoughts on the history of indigenous peoples in this reflective essay.
Utdrag
Continuing on this terrible track record of mistreating indigenous people also leads us to the restrictions and how indigenous people lost their freedom to express their culture.
The Khoisan, South Africa's first nation, were placed under a variety of restrictions by the settlers, who restricted them to territories that were too limited for them to support themselves through hunting, gathering, and preserving their culture.
Additionally, Australian aboriginals were also prevented from expressing their culture by the white men's behavior. It is ridiculous to believe that those who were the land's original inhabitants long before settlers arrived are not allowed to live the lifestyle they want.
It is difficult for me to put into words how shocking and disappointing it feels for me, and how widespread racism and discrimination towards native people are still present in our society.
After all the hardships they have experienced, with the destruction of their lives and culture, and families being torn apart, they should have their place in society.
Speaking from my perspective, I observe similar circumstances for the Kurdish populations in Syria, Iraq, Turkey, and Iran.
