Today, I stand before you to shed light on the enormity of the food waste problem and, hopefully, ignite your passion to join the movement to eradicate it.

A significant contributor to this crisis is the prevalence of discounts driven by factors like The House of Lords EU committee. Studies reveal that these discounts often lead to more food waste as consumers tend to purchase more than they need.

In fact, a staggering 7 million out of 11 million tons of food waste occur in households. While the manufacturing and farming sectors contribute 6.9 million tons, retailers play a pivotal role as they influence what consumers buy and eventually waste.

The underlying issue here is the pursuit of profit at the expense of food waste reduction. However, food waste occurs for various reasons, including misunderstanding food labels like "best before" and "use by," poor stock management, overproduction, and standardized portion sizes, among others.
