Introduktion
Greetings, everyone. Today, we gather to delve into a matter of utmost global significance. I am Ken Murthy, honored to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Tesco, a prominent supermarket chain.
It is my staunch belief that, as stewards of these supermarket empires, we carry a profound duty to ensure our actions align with a sustainable and environmentally responsible path.
In our pursuit of retail development, we must tread thoughtfully. The clarion call of our era is the climate crisis, demanding immediate collective action.
The retail industry must play its part in fostering a more environmentally conscious future. The moment for action is upon us.
Utdrag
Measuring and reporting are pivotal components, underpinned by the Target Measure Act, a three-step initiative applied across the food production, manufacturing, and sales spectrum. This program is our compass, guiding us to quantify and eliminate waste.
Through diligent reporting in all our Tesco markets, we have already achieved a remarkable 42% reduction in food waste since 2016/17. This journey has been a collaborative effort with our suppliers, exemplified by our partnership with a southern African avocado grower.
They transform imperfect avocados into guacamole and avocado-oil products, a testament to the ease with which we can address this challenge.
Yet, our aspirations reach higher still. The solution lies in collective endeavor, which is why we have convened here today. Through concerted efforts across the food industry and rigorous data recording, we can surmount this challenge.
