Introduktion
One effect of one neurotransmitter is the effect of acetylcholine on hippocampal activity in the creation of spatial memories as seen by Antonova Neurotransmission is the process by which messages are sent between neurons.
When an action potential travels down the axon of the presynaptic neuron, this causes calcium channels to open up, and calcium ions enter the synaptic knob. This causes the vesicles with specific neurotransmitters to move down and fuse with the cell membrane at the end of the synaptic knob.
This causes neurotransmitters to be released by a process called exocytosis. The neurotransmitters diffuse across the synaptic cleft from an area of high concentration by the presynaptic neuron to an area of low concentration in the postsynaptic neuron.

Utdrag
Although there was a higher rate of error in the scopolamine group, it was not a significant difference. The difference in the activity in the hippocampus, however, is significant.
This means that the task as designed may not have been the best for showing performance differences; without the use of the fMRI, there would be no way to know that at the biological level there were significant differences in the two conditions.
The study was a repeated measures design - eliminating the effect of participant variability. In addition, the study was counterbalanced - that is, some of the participants did the scopolamine condition first, and others did the placebo condition first. This controlled for practice effect.
