Basics: Frankenstein is written by Mary Shelley Wollstonecraft 1797 - 1851. She is a british writer best known for her gothic novel Frankenstein, which is also known as The Modern Prometheus.
She is a daughter to a political philosopher William Godwin and a philosopher and a feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. Her mother died a few weeks after she gave birth which led to her being raised by her father and creating a great bond between them, but that bond was short as her father remarried when Shelley was 4 years old, which led to a troubling relationship between her and her new mother.
She married one of her father’s political followers - Percy Bysshe Shelley and left for France where they then went on a trip across Europe.
Shelley had 3 children whereas only one survived - Percy Florence Shelley. Shelley died at the age of 53. Some of her other works are: Valperga, Perkin Warbeck, The Last Man, Lodore and others…
Setting: The book takes place at an unknown time somewhere during the 18th century. The story unravels at Captain Walton’s ship, as mentioned in the letters written by him, during their sail towards the North Pole and the harsh coldness of the north - I suspect that the ship is sailing through the northernmost part of the Atlantic Ocean.
With that the story then shifts to continental Europe - and begins follows the main character from their birthplace in Naples, Italy. As the story unravels, the story follows the main character to Bavaria, South Germany and lastly, or at least to the part i read, to Geneva, Switzerland.
As of the surrounding, the writer has not gotten into detail but has mentioned that the main characters family is a wealthy Genevan family, which draws us to conclusion that it takes part among the patricians or the wealthy class.
Characters: The book revolves around Victor Frankenstein and about his creation later on. There are though some parts of the book where more people are involved like in the beginning where we meet Captain Walton, then the Frankenstein family - Alphonse Frankenstein - Victor's father, Caroline Beaufort - Victor's mother, Elizabeth Lavenza - Victors adopted sister which is unique with her blond hair and blue eyes mentioned on page 28 (“ Her hair was the brightest living gold, and despite the poverty of her clothing, seemed to set a crown of distinction on her head.
